How plastic bottles are recycled
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram demonstrate the procedure for reusing plastic bottles in 9 steps.
Overall, bottles are thrown by people than, it take to factory there in the recycling center bottles are separated by men. After some steps, bottles are converted into plastic pellets and after heating process, pellets are become raw material and produced into new items.
In the first step a man throw the bottle into the dustbin and then, a lorry take all the trash into the recycling factory. in third step a man in reprocessing unit sort all the bottles after, the bottles are compressed into blocks for further process.
Before converting the bottles into plastic pellets they are crushed in the sharped blades and washed in a big container. After that, plastic pellets are converted into raw material, through the heating. In the last stage the raw material are reformed into the new products like bottles ,shirts and pencils.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the main stages in the correct general order, from disposal and collection through sorting, compression, crushing and washing to the production of new items. The overview also identifies the key transformation into pellets and then raw material, showing a sound grasp of the process. This is close to a fuller account, but some details are unclear or omitted: the sorting stage separates acceptable bottles from rejected ones, and the diagram shows pellets being heated to form raw material, rather than pellets simply being converted into it. The final products could also be described more fully, as the diagram includes food containers and a carrier bag as well as bottles, clothing and pencils. More precise reporting of these features would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by stages in process order, and sequencing phrases such as “In the first step,” “Before,” and “After that” help the reader follow the cycle. However, some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “Overall, bottles are thrown by people than, it take to factory there,” which makes the overview difficult to follow. Several sentences also join stages with commas or “and then” without clear punctuation, while the final paragraph does not explicitly signal that the products return to the start of the cycle. Use clearer sentence boundaries and a small range of precise connectors to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “compressed,” “crushed,” “washed,” “pellets,” and “raw material,” which allows you to describe the main transformations. There is also some variety in how you refer to the stages and products. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for this diagram: “dustbin” is less suitable than “recycling bin,” “sharped blades” does not accurately describe the rotating crushing gears, and “reformed into the new products” is an awkward collocation. “Trash” and “factory” are also less precise than “bottles” or “waste” and “recycling centre.” Aim for accurate process terms and natural collocations rather than relying on general words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a passive construction in “bottles are converted into plastic pellets” and a time clause beginning “Before converting.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “The diagram demonstrate,” “a man throw,” “a lorry take,” and “the raw material are reformed.” The overview sentence beginning “Overall” also has a faulty structure, and several sentence starts are not capitalised. Practise consistent present-simple forms and subject–verb agreement, and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb. Breaking longer sequences into complete sentences will improve accuracy and readability.
