Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How plastic bottles are recycled

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the process of recycling plastic bottles.

Overall, the reclying process of plastic bottles has nine stages. From its collection to how it is processed to be a usable products.

Looking at the diagram, the garbage bin where most of the people throw plastic bottles is collected by dump truck. Then it will be dump into the recycling center wherein it is sorted manually according to its type of plastic bottle. After sorting,it is compressed into blocks and was crushed by crushing machine. Moreover the crushed plastics is washed into a special washing area accordingly.

Furthermore, after washing the plastics,it is placed into the producing plastic pellet machine to be able to dry,the headted pellets turn into a small form of raw materials that was stored innto a specialized containers.Additionaly its raw materials can now be used in making products that made from recycled plastics like for example the tupper wares, plastic bags, plastic mineral bottles or even t-shirts in everyday use.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover the main stages from placing bottles in a bin through collection, sorting, compression, crushing, washing and conversion into new products. The overview identifies a nine-stage process, and examples such as bottles, bags and T-shirts show awareness that the recycled material has several possible uses. Some details, however, are unclear or inaccurate: the diagram shows sorting into accepted and rejected items, but you do not explain this distinction; it also shows pellets being heated to form raw material, rather than being dried, and the raw material is not specifically described as stored in containers. The account is therefore relevant and broadly complete, but some stages are less fully and precisely reported. Clarifying the sorting decision and the pellet-to-raw-material sequence would make the summary more informative.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the process in sequence. Connectors such as “After sorting,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help signal progression, and the reader can generally follow the stages. However, some linking is mechanical, and the overview sentence fragment (“From its collection to how it is processed to be a usable products”) does not form a clear, complete summary. References such as “it” and “its” are sometimes ambiguous, particularly when several materials or stages are being discussed. Use complete sentences in the overview and make each stage the clear subject of its sentence; this would strengthen progression and cohesion without changing the useful paragraph structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “sorted,” “compressed,” “crushed,” “raw materials,” and “recycled plastics,” so the topic is generally clear. There is also some attempt to describe specific outputs. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, such as “dump truck” for a collection truck, “special washing area,” and “tupper wares.” Spelling errors including “reclying,” “headted,” and “Additionaly” also reduce precision. Some phrases are unnecessarily wordy, for example “to be able to dry.” Aim for accurate terms from the diagram and concise process language, such as “collection truck,” “washing stage,” and “plastic containers.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard product names would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the sequence is usually understandable. However, errors in sentence construction, agreement and verb forms recur. The overview’s “From its collection to how it is processed to be a usable products” is a fragment, while “the garbage bin … is collected by dump truck” gives the wrong grammatical subject for the action. In “it is compressed into blocks and was crushed,” the verb forms do not match, and “the crushed plastics is washed” has a subject–verb agreement error. Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “a usable products.” Use the bottles or plastic as the subject consistently, and check agreement and tense across coordinated verbs. More accurate sentence patterns would make the process easier to follow.
