Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for cooperation: “cooperation is more benefit than competition.” The points about motivation, improved performance, sharing ideas and helping others are relevant, but they are mostly listed rather than explained or supported with a specific example. The opening repeats the topic and gives little direction, while the conclusion restates the two views without adding a developed final reason. The response is also one word below the required 250-word minimum; the 12 words copied from the prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, explain how one example demonstrates the benefits or drawbacks of each approach, and develop your opinion with a clear reason.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on competition, a paragraph on cooperation and an opinion followed by a conclusion. This helps readers identify the main topics. However, progression within and between paragraphs is weak, and some linking phrases are confusing or repetitive. For example, “Morever , on the one hand” introduces cooperation even though “on the one hand” has already introduced competition. The opening contains several repeated statements about the topic, and the final paragraph repeats earlier points rather than bringing them together clearly. Use one clear contrast marker for each viewpoint, organise each paragraph around a single main idea, and connect supporting explanations directly to that idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “cooperation,” “performance,” “promotion,” “support” and “achieving goals.” These words make the general subject understandable. However, the range is limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “everday,” “preperation,” “benifit” and “recieved.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “students motivates better preperation of study” and “work themselves.” Aim to learn accurate collocations and vary the language used to explain effects, such as how competition can encourage effort or how cooperation can combine skills. Proofreading spelling and choosing natural word combinations would make your ideas clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences joined with conjunctions, and the reader can generally identify your intended meaning. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction. Examples include “competition and cooperation is important,” “it motivates people work harder,” and “students motivates.” The sentence beginning “People believe that work, at school…” is incomplete, while several long sentences join multiple ideas without clear grammatical control. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses using forms such as “because” or “when.” Check agreement and verb patterns before combining ideas.
