Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people argues that competing in work, school and everyday life provides motivation to work harder and excel; Meanwhile, other thinks that instead of competition, cooporation should be preferred because it can help the weak ones to rise. In my opinion, although competition is a good way to get better, assisting others is also necessary.
Competition provides the necessary motivation to keep working and achieving success in life. Taking an example of a boy at school whose main motive is to be the best one among all his classmates. As a result, he studies regularly and try to push his limits just to compete against other students at school. Due to this competition, the boy has a lot of benefits as he get to learn something which can make him better with the passage of time.
On the other hand, helping and cooperating with other gurantees an equal and better society. There are a lot of people who are naturally weak at some aspects of life so instead of making them over opponent, we should assist them as much as possible. I have seen many students in my life who worked harder than the intelligent ones but still because of some of their inabilities, they get left behind. If those intelligent ones help these kind of their colleagues so not just equality will be promoted but they will also have equal amount of opportunities.
To conclude, competing against others is good for self-improvements but cooperation is the key to an equally treated and well established society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both sides of the question and state a clear overall view: competition can improve individual performance, while cooperation supports a fairer society. The schoolboy example explains how competition may motivate regular study, and your observation about students who are left behind gives relevant support for cooperation. This meets the task, but the two positions are not developed equally: the competition paragraph focuses on one student and could explain more broadly how competition benefits workplaces or everyday life, while the cooperation argument would benefit from a specific example of people achieving more together. Your conclusion restates your position, though it could clarify how the two approaches can be balanced. Develop these points further to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from competition to cooperation is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “To conclude” help orient the reader. This is a strong foundation, with some features of more flexible organisation already present. However, a few links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “As a result” introduces the boy’s studying, but the relationship between his ambition and the later benefits could be explained more precisely. The sentence beginning “If those intelligent ones help…” is also difficult to follow because its conditional structure and reference to “these kind of their colleagues” obscure the connection. Use clearer referencing and vary transitions while making the logical links explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “motivation,” “compete,” “cooperating,” “inabilities,” and “opportunities,” so the main ideas are communicated. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “equal and better society” and “self-improvements.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “over opponent” does not express the intended idea, and “equal amount of opportunities” is not a natural phrase. Spelling errors such as “cooporation” and “gurantees” also affect accuracy. Aim to use familiar words in precise, natural combinations before reaching for more elaborate expressions, and proofread spelling. This would make your vocabulary more effective and consistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a boy at school whose main motive…” and a conditional structure beginning “If those intelligent ones help…”. These attempts show some range, and the overall meaning remains understandable. However, there are some errors in agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “Many people argues” should have a plural verb, while “he studies regularly and try” shifts incorrectly between verb forms. In “the boy … he get,” the verb does not agree with its subject. The final conditional sentence is also structurally difficult to control. Review subject–verb agreement and keep verb forms consistent within a sentence; then check that longer clauses are complete and clearly connected.
