Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often asserted that competing with other people wether at the place of job, during education or in general life has advantages. While other people hold the belief that it is an unappropriate behaviour and we should work as a collective team. This essay will discuss both aspects in detail.
Positve and healthy competition has some beneficial effects on the performance as well as the behaviour of individuals. When someone is doing better job than you, you ought to but more efforts in your own work, so that you can be appreciated at your work place. This has beneficial effects on improving your skills and knowledge, simultaneously giving you a better experience. The same pattern implies on students during their study at school. Most schools have introduced prize system, in which they award some sort of prize to the most outstanding student of the year. This practice develops a desire among students to compete with each other in terms of knowledge and learning. They tend to go to libraries, gain more knowledge and study late nights so they can be a distinguished student well above the others. The better studies will automatically help them to perform well in the examination, thus promising a bright career.
On the other hand, this practice also has some disadvantages. Some people develop a sense of jealousy for their peers and colleagues, creating a negative environment. They often spend their energy and time trying to degrade people, rather than focusing on their own development. Sometimes, they go above and beyond the rules to destroy other people's reputation. This thing reduces their own productivity rather than doing any good.
Cummulating all the factors, it can be said that some sort of healthy competition is beneficial to the progress of individuals and organisation, as far as it do not affect the dignity of other people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of prize systems in schools and the negative impact of jealousy in the workplace. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on cooperation is quite brief compared to the section on competition. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more balanced development for both perspectives and ensure your personal opinion is more explicitly integrated throughout the essay rather than just appearing in the final sentence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Cummulating all the factors', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing could be more precise in places. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong topic sentence would further enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'distinguished', 'productivity', and 'beneficial effects'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices or minor spelling errors, such as 'wether' instead of 'whether', 'unappropriate' instead of 'inappropriate', and 'Cummulating' instead of 'Cumulating'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over vocabulary and spelling. To improve, focus on learning collocations and practicing the correct spelling of common academic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'doing better job' (missing article), 'ought to but more efforts' (incorrect verb usage), and 'as far as it do not affect' (subject-verb agreement). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and refining your control over complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
