Student answer (Band 5.5)

Competition is a thing that help us to grow up and to complete our work faster. Competition is very important for everyone. In this essay I will explain both point of views also my opinion

Some people believe that Competition is at work or at school and in our daily life is very important. Genuinely it is very helpful thing in life . Without Competition life is very boring and colour less. Competition Make interests in work or study as well as in every field. It help us to work very fast and complete our goals it also demonstrates the hard work behind our success.

On the other hand some people think that Competition is not meaningful as well as not important. They think that we should work without Competition. We should believe ourselves and should work silently and we should get achievements without any Competition.

In my point of view Competition is meaningful and important for success. With out Competitions every success is colourless and boring Competitions make it interesting as well as colourful

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 175 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and repetitive. While the essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, the lack of depth and the failure to meet the length constraint mean the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples, explanations, and logical consequences to reach the required length and provide a more thorough discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive (e.g., 'Competition is...') or basic. The transition between paragraphs is functional but lacks sophistication. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that is fully supported by the subsequent sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on simple words like 'important', 'good', and 'meaningful'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. Phrases like 'colour less' and 'colourful' are used in a way that is not entirely natural in this context. To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to incorporate more academic vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition and express your ideas with greater precision and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'Competition is a thing that help us' (subject-verb agreement), 'both point of views also my opinion' (missing preposition/conjunction), and 'With out' (should be 'Without'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound.
