Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you attempt to address both sides of the argument, the discussion is underdeveloped and lacks depth. For instance, the paragraph regarding the benefits of competition is very brief and relies on a vague reference to research. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding stress is not fully explored. To improve, you must expand your points with more detailed explanations and specific examples to ensure the task is fully addressed. The position is stated, but the lack of length prevents a thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the contrary' and 'To conclude', but they are sometimes used in a way that does not perfectly fit the flow of the argument. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is somewhat abrupt. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked more fluidly using a wider variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'compitition' (competition) and 'hilight' (highlight), and some awkward phrasing like 'make and break any person'. The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you proofread your work to correct basic spelling errors, which currently detract from the overall quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'if used properly ak any person', 'it can eventually reduces', and 'a project was delayed by 6 month'. Subject-verb agreement and pluralisation issues are common. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and noun-number agreement.
