Student answer (Band 6.5)

Certain people believe that competition at offices, schools and in our routine life is a good thing. However others believe that collaborate with each other rather than having a rivlary against each other. This essay discuss about both the views and presenting my opinion.

Competition in work places makes the employee the stay productive and finish the task before the deadline. In offices, the technology professionals will enhance their skills by seeing the other coworker's as rivlary. In schools, students can gain good marks in exams by competing with the other students. For an instance, In my office one of my colleague learned new programming langauge because of that he got an on site project opportunity and settled in the foreign country.

On the other hand, instead of competiting with others they can collaborate with each other. It helps to finish the project and deliver it to the customer within the timeline. As a human it helps to understand the situation and they can react it accordingly. For an instance, me and team mate will discuss about the pending tasks and will work together. We both will be sharing the application knowledge, testing strategy and tools. This helped both of us to gain knowledge in all aspects and finish the work within the time.

To conclude, both views have their own merits. I believe that competition should be there and it should help us to learn new things. However cooperation nurtures team work. To follow a combination of both to be a good human being and well being.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples, such as the office programming scenario, the explanation of why competition or cooperation is beneficial remains relatively superficial. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the underlying reasons for your views rather than just listing scenarios. For instance, you could discuss the psychological impact of competition on long-term motivation versus the sustainable benefits of collaborative environments. The response is balanced, but the depth of analysis needs to be increased to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'To conclude' to signal transitions. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise. For example, the sentence 'As a human it helps to understand the situation' lacks a clear antecedent, making the connection to the previous point about collaboration slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'programming language' and 'testing strategy'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'rivlary' (rivalry), 'competiting' (competing), and 'langauge' (language). Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'routine life' instead of 'daily life' or 'the employee the stay productive'. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and refining your collocations to sound more natural and precise in an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('This essay discuss about'), article usage ('the technology professionals'), and awkward phrasing ('me and team mate will discuss'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction, and aim to incorporate more varied complex structures with greater precision.
