Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the ability to fully develop the argument. While the essay introduces both sides of the debate and states an opinion, the discussion is incomplete. The second paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, and the conclusion is entirely missing. Because the response is only 111 words, it fails to address the task requirements adequately, resulting in a low score for task achievement. To improve, you must ensure you provide a balanced discussion for both perspectives and a clear conclusion, while meeting the minimum word count to allow for sufficient idea development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay shows a basic attempt at paragraphing, but the structure is incomplete. The use of cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' is present, but the overall progression is interrupted by the abrupt ending of the text. The lack of a conclusion and the unfinished nature of the second paragraph make it difficult to follow a logical flow. To improve, focus on completing your thoughts within each paragraph and using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly throughout the entire essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally simple and repetitive. There are some errors in word choice, such as 'cooperation' used as a verb instead of 'cooperate', and 'kills' instead of 'skills'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts the ability to express complex ideas effectively. To achieve a higher band score, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you are using the correct word forms. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help you convey your arguments with greater clarity and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'helps to them improve they kills' and 'If people not not compete'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct word order, and proofreading for basic errors. Practicing the construction of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions will also help improve your grammatical range and overall accuracy.
