Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people think that competition is a good thing for human life for example: at work, school and in daily life. Others think we should work together, rather than competing with each other. We will look at both sides.
People who think friendly competition is a necessary. This because they think vie with each other makes people more competitive and it teaches people a lesson. For example, when we go to the school or work there is a person who is better than you and always trying to get above from them. It helps people to create better version of themselves.
But some people believe cooperate is more efficient than competition against each other. I agree with this view because working together trains teamwork skill and we have to listen other people's opinion. For example, we always face with difficulties in our everyday life and we can't get over it without other individuals help. That is why I prefer collaborate with individuals.
Both sides have good points, but I think cooperate with each other is more effective. One of the reason is everyday difficulties I mentioned earlier. Another biggest motive is coordination ability because It helps people to understand other people's idea or suggestion and this skill always with you until you die.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the discussion. The ideas are presented but remain somewhat superficial; for instance, the explanation of why competition is 'a lesson' is vague. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your arguments with more detailed examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your points. The conclusion is present but lacks a summary of the main arguments, which is necessary for a well-rounded response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'For example' is used twice in a similar way). The transition between paragraphs is functional but lacks sophistication. Some sentences feel disconnected, and the logical flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast'. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices will help the essay feel more fluid and professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple terms like 'good thing' and 'better'. There are also some errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'cooperate is more efficient' (should be 'cooperation') and 'prefer collaborate' (should be 'prefer to collaborate'). To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise terms related to the topic of competition and teamwork will significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. Examples include 'This because they think vie with each other' (should be 'This is because they think vying with each other') and 'always trying to get above from them'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are issues with subject-verb agreement and word forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex structures will also help demonstrate better control.
