Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that competition at business, education and even in our daily life plays an crucial rule. While critics believes that we should prefer to cooperate with each other rather than competing. This essay will examine the tension between both views before presenting an authentic opinion.

On the one hand some people argued that competition is more productive at work, school, and in our personal lives. This is because, competition gives motivation and encouraged people to achieve their goals and complete tasks before deadline. For instance, in school and work places students and employees try to be done better than others. Therefore, they work hard to compete their competitors in search of higher grades and promotion. This is the clear reason of supporters of the competition.

On the other hand, proponents prefer that we should try to cooperate and support each others than competing. Cooperation plays an important rule in building strong relation and creates a strong sense of community. Moreover, with cooperating each other we can share ideas and knowledge and can prove more productive and helpful. For example, in schools and work by supporting each other we complete our tasks more frequently as, students can help each other in searching data for their assignments. Although, workers can complete their projects before deadline in a more attractive way.

In my opinion, both the point have worth in their evidence since competition encouraged motivation, cooperation build strong relation and proved more by helping and sharing ideas with each other.

In conclusion, some of individuals prefer competition as it motivates more to chase their goals and daily needs. However, it is often argued that we should try to cooperate as it can broaden our knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that competition provides motivation and cooperation builds community, these points are not fully extended with deep analysis or nuanced examples. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation of the 'why' and 'how' behind your claims, rather than just stating them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the use of 'Although' at the start of a sentence in the third paragraph, which does not function correctly as a connector here. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making some transitions feel abrupt. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proponents,' 'productive,' and 'assignments.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'plays an crucial rule' (should be 'role') and 'try to be done better' (should be 'perform better'). Some vocabulary is repetitive, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or precise lexical items that would allow for a more nuanced discussion. Focusing on learning common collocations and ensuring correct word forms will significantly improve your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('critics believes') and verb forms ('competition encouraged motivation'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage that occasionally disrupt the flow. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically verb tenses and agreement.
