Student answer (Band 7.0)
Competition is considered one of the significant aspects of human lives. Some people argue in support of competing with other people in daily life such as at work place and school because competition leads to progress. On the other side, some folks prefer cooperation over competition because it nurtures everyone in the world. I am in favor of later argument because cooperation provides everyone a chance to thrive in a society. This essay discusses both these points in detail.
Some people uphold this narrative that competition is necessary at learning and work places because it leads to progress in every field of life. Competition leads to success because it creates an environment where everyone is willing to cross the river in order to achieve glory. For instance, competition in science and technology has lead to scientific revolution in the world. Moreover, if a child competes with his batchmates, he will make progress in his studies, which would be beneficial for his future.
On the contrary, some individuals believe in the virtue of cooperating with each other rather than competing because cooperation allows everyone to thrive on the planet. In every place on Earth, there are people who do not possess the capability to compete due to their medical conditions or some other reasons and if their fellow citizens start competing with them, they would be left behind. For example, a sane person would never compete with an Autistic person because it is not fair. He would rather help him to improve him life and see the beauty of the world.
To conclude this discussion, I believe in the spirit of cooperation because it gives everyone a fair chance to be someone in the world. Although competition is necessary in some fields of life to make progress, it has never benefitted everyone in society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both competition and cooperation while maintaining a clear personal position throughout. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported. However, the development of the arguments could be more sophisticated. For instance, the example regarding the 'Autistic person' is a bit simplistic and could have been framed more broadly to discuss social equity or inclusive environments. The conclusion effectively summarizes the stance, but the essay would benefit from more nuanced exploration of how competition and cooperation might coexist in professional or educational settings, rather than treating them as mutually exclusive concepts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other side', 'Moreover', 'On the contrary', and 'To conclude' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between the general statement about competition and the specific example of scientific revolution could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and referencing is consistent throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'nurtures', 'thrive', and 'scientific revolution'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'uphold this narrative' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context) and 'improve him life' (a grammatical slip affecting lexical accuracy). To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am in favor of later argument' (missing article), 'has lead to' (incorrect verb form), and 'improve him life' (pronoun error). These errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score but do not impede communication. The student shows an ability to construct complex sentences, but the control over these structures is not yet consistent. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
