Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that competition should be done at work, at school, and in daily life is a good thing for people. While some contend that people should be cooperative more. This essay will discuss which is more beneficial. While both perspectives have merit, I unequivocally assert that competition is more vital for successful in life.
To commence with, one of the most compelling justification for competition is a good thing is performance improvement. This is primarily because competition encourages people to work harder and pushes students and employees to achieve their full potential. In addition, competition also increases productivity and innovation. A pertinent illustration of this can be observed in the case of corporate world, where employees compete with their team members for promotions, which leads to better results. Therefore, it is understandable why some people support this viewpoint.
On the other hand, advocates of cooperation is better assert that better teamwork and knowledge sharing. Not only does exchange ideas and learn from another, but it also reduces stress and unhealthy rivalry. From a broader perspective, excessive competition can cause anxiety, jealousy, and unethical behavior. Cooperation creates a supportive and positive environment. For instance, employees who collaborate are less likely to hide information from colleagues. From my perspective, competition is beneficial, but only when it is healthy and balanced by cooperation. Modern schools and workplaces need both rather than choosing one over the other.
In conclusion, although supporters of cooperation present valid arguments, competition is good offers more substantial and sustainable benefits. Therefore I firmly maintain that competition is more better because of improvement in performance, productivity and increases innovation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument for competition is supported by a brief example of the corporate world, but it could be further extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion introduces a nuanced view that competition and cooperation should be balanced, which is a positive development, but the essay would benefit from more depth in the body paragraphs to fully explore the implications of these concepts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to signal transitions. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some sentences lack smooth integration, such as the opening sentence which contains grammatical errors that disrupt the logical flow of the introduction. Overall, the structure is coherent and serves the purpose of the argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'innovation', 'productivity', 'unethical behavior', and 'sustainable benefits'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'successful in life' instead of 'success in life' and 'more better', which is a redundant comparative. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score. Expanding the range of synonyms and refining collocations would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and sentence fragments. For example, 'While some contend that people should be cooperative more' is a fragment, and 'advocates of cooperation is better assert that better teamwork' contains a structural error. Additionally, 'competition should be done' is an unnatural phrasing. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is recommended.
