Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both views and provides a personal opinion, the conclusion is incomplete, and the arguments are underdeveloped. The points regarding competition and cooperation are relevant but lack depth and sufficient supporting evidence. Because the essay is under-length and the conclusion is missing, the response only partially addresses the task requirements. To improve, you must ensure you reach the word count by expanding on your examples and providing a full, well-structured conclusion that restates your position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay uses basic paragraphing to separate the introduction, the two body paragraphs, and the incomplete conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'For example', 'To begin with'). The flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed due to the lack of varied linking words. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall progression of ideas is hindered by the brevity of the text. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' to better connect your arguments and improve the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'good thing' or 'make'. There are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'THOURGHT', 'EASSY', 'ENEVIRONMENT', 'ENCOURGAEMENT', 'INSTINSES', and 'COMPITITION'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You should focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('student at school have'), incorrect word forms ('cooperateing'), and punctuation errors (missing spaces after commas and periods). The use of articles and pluralization is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score. To improve, practice constructing complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions and pay closer attention to proofreading your work for basic punctuation and spelling errors before submitting.
