Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position, the arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, the example regarding the tennis tournament in Lahore is too brief to effectively support the point about competition. The conclusion is also very abrupt. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and relevant examples to ensure the essay reaches the required length and depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, the transition 'Meanwhile' is used to introduce the opposing view, but the overall flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. The opening paragraph contains a sentence fragment ('Although many individuals...'), which disrupts the logical progression of the introduction. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects smoothly to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good thing' and 'provide help'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'contention at the workplace' and 'daily livings'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of minor errors in word choice limit the score. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise synonyms to express your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, the first sentence is a fragment, and there are issues with subject-verb agreement and word forms, such as 'they should be cooporated with each other' (should cooperate). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas and incorrect capitalization of 'i'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall clarity and professional tone of the writing.
