Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals believes that competing at the work place, school and also in our day to day activity.

While others suggests that working together as a team would be better than doing their things separately and try be the better person.

On one hand, competition makes everybody to be serious and and achieve their goals in the place of work, school, or in any area of life they might find their self in especially if there is a prize for certain level. For example, when there is a gift for the first position in class, the students will sit up and focus on their education in other to get the gift.

More so, when there is competition there will be so many results when workers are asked to do something at the office, there for giving their boss the opportunity have better results or maybe even the best outcome. For instance, i have an uncle who works in a fashion company and they are always told to sew clothes and add a design to it because they are competing to be the best they end up coming up with very beautiful design ideals.

On other hand, team work is a very great thing which helps the society at large to be in unity. When there is cooperation, i believe there will be no failure, set back, or negativity in the school, office, or between one another. For example when class mates help each other to learn or teach them a topic they don't understand everybody will understand the topic and pass their exams.

In addition, cooperation helps build friendship as a result of working together and coming out with a good outcome at the end.

In conclusion, in as much as cooperation is a very good thing which helps in so many way, i think competition will better and will make people try to do better in what they do so that they can become the best also where there is cooperation some people end up becoming lazy because they depend on what others will say or do.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument that cooperation leads to 'no failure' is an over-generalisation that lacks nuance. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting examples, such as the uncle in the fashion company, are a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the implications of these concepts more deeply, perhaps by discussing the potential downsides of excessive competition (e.g., stress or burnout) or the challenges of cooperation (e.g., diffusion of responsibility).

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'On one hand,' 'More so,' and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'doing their things' or 'they might find their self in.' The use of linking words is occasionally repetitive, and some sentences feel disjointed. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall logical progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'cooperation,' 'competition,' and 'unity.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choice, such as 'doing their things' instead of 'working independently' or 'design ideals' instead of 'design ideas.' There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'find their self' instead of 'find themselves.' To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Some individuals believes,' 'others suggests'), missing articles, and incorrect pronoun usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound, especially when attempting more complex, multi-clause sentences.
