Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people argue that competition at work, school and in daily life is considered as a good thing. On the other hand some individuals believe that we should try to cooperate more rather than competing against each other. In my opinion, both the things should be balanced as in this way it can be more beneficial. This essay will compare both the views and justify my opinion.
The first segment will highlight the feature of being competitive in daily life. Firstly, in terms of school competition helps students to achieve better marks in subjects or examination and further helps them to research more regarding particular topics so it can help them further in future. Meanwhile, at work competition works as a motivation to work hard and better than others to earn more profits or promotions. For example, due to competition among the different companies, product quality increases consumer often get discount and better service.
On the other hand, some believe that rather than competing against each other we should cooperate more. Because people often face many challenges or difficulties due to competition and the rate of depression and stress also increases among the population. For instance, children often get depressed or commit suicide because of not getting enough marks in competitive exams. Therefore, some believe that working together and uplifting each other provides much more benefits.
In my opinion, competition is necessary for individual development but cooperation and helping others should be considered : people get jealous of other's success and rather than appreciating it and improving themselves they develop negative thoughts among themselves. Thus, it is important to have both in equal to live peaceful life.
To conclude, competition in daily life and cooperation both are equally important in development and innovations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of competition in business and the psychological toll of academic pressure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument for cooperation could be extended further with more specific examples of how collaborative environments foster innovation. The position is consistent throughout, but the conclusion is quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed explanation or evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Meanwhile', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is a lack of variety in the linking words used. Additionally, the referencing in the final paragraph ('Thus, it is important to have both in equal to live peaceful life') is slightly unclear due to missing articles and awkward phrasing, which affects the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using topic-specific vocabulary like 'individual development', 'innovations', and 'promotions'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'both the things' instead of 'both approaches' or 'both concepts'. The phrasing 'in equal' is also non-standard. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to convey nuance, rather than relying on repetitive or overly simple terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('to live peaceful life'), subject-verb agreement issues, and awkward sentence construction ('competition in daily life and cooperation both are equally important'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence boundaries. The control of complex structures is inconsistent; while the writer attempts to use subordinating conjunctions, the resulting sentences sometimes lack grammatical precision. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would improve the score.
