Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 182 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both sides of the argument and provide a personal opinion, the points are underdeveloped. For example, the discussion on competition mentions 'painting' and 'games' but lacks depth or specific examples of how these translate to broader life success. Similarly, the negative impacts of competition are mentioned briefly without sufficient explanation or illustration. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed reasoning and concrete examples to fully explore the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While you use some cohesive devices like 'In these days' and 'In conclusion', the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the pronoun 'they' is used ambiguously. The structure is quite basic, and the lack of length prevents the development of a more sophisticated flow of ideas. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, well-supported central theme that connects logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. You rely on basic terms like 'good thing' and 'competition' throughout the text. There are also several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'tangle there problems' (likely meaning 'tackle their problems') and 'mentle' (mental). The range is insufficient for a higher band score. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'academic pressure', 'collaborative environment', or 'psychological well-being', and pay closer attention to spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'A section of society believe' (subject-verb agreement), 'over their' (incorrect preposition/homophone), and 'when leds to' (incorrect relative clause structure). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and spacing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative pronouns. Increasing the variety of sentence structures while ensuring accuracy is essential for a higher score.
