Student answer (Band 6.0)
Competition is often considered as an effective way to motivate people to perform better at work, school and everyday life, while others think that people should cooperate with each other. This essay will discuss both the views followed by my own opinion.
The most significant reason behind competition is that it motivates people to work harder. Competition encourages people to set higher goals and improve their performance. At school students may study harder when they compete for better grades and at work employee may become more productive when they want to receive promotion. Additionally, it improves their skills. when people compete with each other, they can identify their weaknesses and try to overcome them. Competition in businesses often develop better products and provide higher quality services to attract customers.
On the other hand, cooperation helps people to achieve common goals. Working together allows people to share ideas, knowledge and responsibilities. In workplace, employees from different departments can cooperates to complete large project more effectively. In addition, cooperation creates better relationships and reduce stress. Excessive competition can create jealousy, pressure and conflict between people. Cooperation encourages trust, support and positive environment.
In my opinion, competition can motivate individuals to perform better, but cooperation is more beneficial in the long term because people can share their strength, solve problems together and build strong relationships.
In conclusion, competition can encourage people to improve their skills and achieve higher goals , whereas cooperation promotes team work and mutual supports. i belev

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement (247 words), which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the ideas are relevant and logically structured, the conclusion is incomplete, ending abruptly with 'i belev', which suggests a lack of final proofreading and development. To reach a higher band, ensure the word count is met and that all sections, particularly the conclusion, are fully articulated and polished.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'The most significant reason', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. However, the abrupt ending of the essay disrupts the overall flow and coherence. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the lack of a finished concluding sentence makes the final impression feel disjointed and incomplete.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with clear attempts to use topic-specific language such as 'productive', 'overcome', and 'mutual supports'. However, there are some minor errors in word form and collocation, such as 'employee may become' (should be plural 'employees') and 'cooperates to complete' (should be 'cooperate'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning but lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of academic collocations would help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('employee may become', 'Competition... develop better products') and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with a missing space after a comma in the final paragraph. The unfinished final sentence is a significant grammatical error that impedes the overall accuracy of the response. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation errors would significantly improve your score.
