Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays we are listening about tough competition everywhere, weather its exams, jobs, market, business or in day to day life. Some people think this competition is good, others believe in cooperation.

Lets discuss why competition is good first. As we know if we don't have any measuring bar , how we can check which thing is better than others or vise versa. Assume a young student who knows that there are number of participants in scholarship exam , if he wants to get it, than he needs to study hard, otherwise someone other will get scholarship. Same in work places, where 10 employees are working on a same occupation and they know after one year best performer will get promotion. Naturally they will compete with each other to get that higher rank. So in this process we can get deserving candidate in every field.

On the other hand cooperation is also a essential part of every institution. As we know every human being is unique. Every body has their own plus points and negatives. For example in a famous food restaurant there is a team work. Kitchen staff, Chief, Servers, Bar tender , Receptionist, Manager etc. All have different skills and duties. They can run that business successfully only If they works as a team and cooperate with each other. So this a prime example from our day to day life, which shows cooperation is important.

At the end we can say if people think competition at work, at school and in daily life is good, they are correct if the competition is healthy. But in my opinion cooperation is more important in daily life to become a healthy, happy and successful community.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of competition relies on a single scenario of a scholarship exam, and the cooperation example is a list of restaurant roles rather than an analysis of why cooperation is beneficial. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments, providing more depth and nuance. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explored to demonstrate a more sophisticated understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'On the other hand' and 'For example,' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. Some transitions are abrupt, such as the jump from the restaurant example to the conclusion. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. Referencing could also be more precise to avoid repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'deserving candidate' and 'promotion.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'weather' instead of 'whether' and 'Chief' instead of 'Chef.' The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on common, everyday language rather than more sophisticated or academic collocations. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct spelling and word usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'if we don't have any measuring bar , how we can check' (word order), 'there are number of participants' (missing article), and 'if he wants to get it, than he needs' (incorrect conjunction). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately. Reducing these frequent errors will significantly improve the readability and professional tone of your writing.
