Student answer (Band 6.0)

One section of society believes that competition at work, school and in daily life is a good thing, while others oppose it. I will discuss both viewpoints as well as my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with the benefits of competition, people start to think broadly and uniquely. To elaborate, if there is no competition among employees and students nobody will put effort to do some thing new and in easy way. Moreover, a competitive environment at job and educational place encourage individuals to work hard and give their best. For example, at work employer give incentive to their workers those who performe better throughout the month.

However, employes and students should cooperate, while working or studying at work and school. Explore and generate new ideas and thoughts through wich they can easily do their activities such as assignments before the given period. Afterthat, work is distributed in many parts and the burden is not on one head, so after finish their responsibilities they have enough time to spend with their families. For example, a survey was conducted in the USA in 2005, which showed that employee and students who cooperate with each other were doing well as compared to others who prefered to work and study alone .

I believes that people should cooperate at work, school and in daily life due to this they can also make new friends while having helping nature.

To conclude, no doubt competition is a good thing to encourage individuals to think broadlly but helping each other at work and school is better and people can get a chance to learn new things and experience different opinions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the benefits of competition are mentioned, the explanation is brief. The section on cooperation is more detailed, but the supporting example (a 2005 survey) lacks specific context or depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your reasoning with more nuanced arguments rather than relying on general statements. Your position is consistent, but the overall depth of analysis is more characteristic of a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Afterthat' (which should be 'After that') and 'due to this' (which is not a standard cohesive phrase). The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'at work, school and in daily life' and 'employes and students'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'performe' (perform), 'broadlly' (broadly), and 'wich' (which). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to the topic of competition and cooperation, and ensure you check your spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('employer give incentive', 'I believes'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage ('at job and educational place'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors in sentence construction. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
