Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding economic growth is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with a concrete, logical link to the benefits of competition. The conclusion is also quite brief and lacks a summary of the main points discussed. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your supporting points with more detailed reasoning and clearer examples, ensuring that your position is consistently maintained and developed throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Ahead of my opinion' and 'Examining the former opinion'. While there is a logical progression, the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of ideas. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit rigid. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'race at workplace' instead of 'competition in the workplace', and 'boast of economic growth' instead of 'boost'. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'li9fe' and 'bare' (instead of 'are'). While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is limited, and the errors occasionally distract the reader. Focusing on accurate collocations and proofreading for spelling would significantly improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'at work at school' (missing punctuation), 'results in boast' (incorrect verb form), and 'given to the expertise bases on their skills' (incorrect word form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and consistent punctuation.
