Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether people should compete with others at work or whether employees should cooperate with one another instead of starting a compitition against each other. Although both sides have their own pros and cons, I strongly believe that people should cooperate more rather than competing. I will discuss both views in this essay.
On on hand in work places there is a trend to make a comprtition evnvironment where people started to see others as their rivals. It can somewhere leads worker to work hard and motivates to do more. Individuals wants to be better than others at work and want to perform better. It can make an intense relationship with colleagues intead of a good friendly zone. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that competition can motivate workers, the explanation is brief and lacks depth. Similarly, the benefits of cooperation are stated but could be supported with more specific, nuanced examples beyond just 'getting help from a senior.' The essay covers all parts of the prompt, but the arguments remain at a surface level, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure each body paragraph explores the 'why' and 'how' of your points more thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'To wrap up' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'On on hand in work places there is a trend...' and 'If people supports one another at work places makes a nice...'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence connects logically to the previous one will help improve your score in this area.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'compitition', 'comprtition', 'evnvironment', 'atmoshper', and 'sernior', which distract the reader. You rely on basic vocabulary like 'nice', 'good', and 'work hard'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated collocations and precise terminology related to the workplace (e.g., 'professional development', 'collaborative synergy', 'incentivize'). Additionally, proofreading for spelling is essential, as these errors occur frequently throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'If people supports one another at work places makes a nice...' is grammatically incorrect, as is 'It can somewhere leads worker to work hard'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the response. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful attention to basic sentence construction and grammar rules. Focusing on consistent verb forms and sentence structure will significantly improve your accuracy.
