Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often agued that competition is beneficial either at work , at school or in day to day activities, while others believe that it should be avoided and people should cooperate with eachother. This essay will discuss both perspectives before giving my opinion that why helping each other has more positive impact on society.

On one hand , competition is beneficial for the indivudual growth of person in professional and personal life. This is because it inspires a person to work hard and achieve higher aims in life. For instance, competition in school helps to encourage other students so they improve their grades.Similarly , it is highly beneficial for employees so they adapt themselves to advanced skills and grow in their careers. This demonstrates that competition is important to excel in school or in professional life.

On the other hand, cooperating with eachother has positive impact on the society. In other words, if people cooperate eeachother , it will help those who are less privileged individuals. For example, if students are encouraged to help their fellows who are weak in studies, it will be great for them to learn difficult subjects. This will create a healthy environment in class. Moreover, if people cooperate with new employees at the workplace, it will help them to easily adapt to the culture of their new office. Therefore, cooperating with others will lead to a healthy environment and advantegous for the mental health of individuals.

In my opinion, cooperating with others is more important as it helps people to grow.It will create environment where people are open to discuss or ask for help.Consequently , improves overall behaviour of individuals in society .

In conclusion. helping should be encouraged more than competing with eachother.Although competition may inspire students or professionals , but cooperating with others is more beneficial for the overall growth of society. As it will create an environment where less competent indivuduals have the freedom to learn from others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the examples regarding school grades and workplace adaptation. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the arguments for cooperation in the third paragraph and the conclusion overlap significantly. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your ideas with more nuanced analysis rather than restating the same points. The position is consistent throughout, and the essay structure is appropriate for an academic task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'cooperating with each other'. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different viewpoints. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') is used more precisely to connect ideas between sentences, rather than relying on simple conjunctions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'privileged' and 'competent', but there are also recurring spelling errors (e.g., 'agued', 'indivudual', 'eeachother', 'advantegous'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, you should focus on expanding your range of collocations and ensuring accuracy in spelling. Using more precise synonyms for common words like 'good' or 'help' would also elevate the lexical quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in punctuation (e.g., missing spaces after commas, incorrect use of periods) and some minor grammatical slips, such as 'why helping each other has more positive impact' (missing 'a') and 'cooperating with others will lead to a healthy environment and advantegous' (missing 'be'). The control of complex structures is inconsistent. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading for basic punctuation and article usage, and try to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentence forms.
