Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the paragraph on competition provides a relevant example regarding capitalism, the explanation of cooperation is slightly repetitive and lacks a strong, specific example to support the claim about volunteering. The conclusion is incomplete, as the final sentence cuts off abruptly, which prevents a full summary of the position. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments are fully extended and that the conclusion is finished to provide a sense of closure to the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'To conclude this' and the incomplete final sentence. Referencing is generally clear, but some transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that the essay is fully completed would significantly enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'capitalism', 'volunteering', and 'critical thinking'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'many people divided over the fact' instead of 'divided on the issue', and 'competitive hobbies' which does not quite fit the context. Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'cooperative individual' instead of 'a cooperative individual'. Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on natural collocations would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'competition is play a vital role' (should be 'plays') and 'Every individual have to' (should be 'has'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete final sentence is a significant issue. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex structures are used with greater accuracy.
