Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days many people divided over the fact that whether competition at work, at school and day-to-day life is mandatory or they should try to cooperate with each other rather than competing. I believe that, although competition has some important benefits, cooperation is generally more beneficial in everyday life.

On the one hand, supporters of competition believe that if the society want to create valuable individuals then we should develop competitive hobbies in youngsters. Because competitive minds are able to enhance critical and decision making skills. For instance, The united States of America introduced capitalism to stabilize economy in the form of competition between similar organizations. Every employee faced fear of job loss if they did not achieve their targets. As a result, production and sales of these companies have been increased.

On the other hand, critics of cooperation believe that if we wants to protect ethics, norms and value we have to teach residents about cooperation. Because helping each other leads to create a caring person. In this competitive world every citizen is in the race of earning money despite causes depression and dissatisfaction. For example, to maintain a balance between professional and personal life many countries offer volunteering work in NGOs (caring elders, fundraising for any catastrophic condition). These free of cost work helpful for them to understand the importance of ethics, norms and values.

To conclude this, competition is an essential part of our lives despite creates stress and anxiety. Cooperation is helpful to create better society because everyone will be aware with others critical situation and they will help them. From my perspective, cooperative world is beneficial for the community because everyone always willing to tackle catastrophic condition with cooperation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both competition and cooperation before providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of capitalism and volunteering. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how competition creates 'valuable individuals' is brief, and the link between volunteering and ethics could be more deeply explored. The position is consistent throughout, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more detailed elaboration to reach a higher band. The essay remains focused on the topic throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To conclude this' and 'despite causes depression'. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow is interrupted by grammatical errors, which slightly affects the overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'catastrophic condition' and 'stabilize economy', though some collocations are imprecise or unnatural, such as 'aware with others critical situation' or 'these free of cost work'. Some word choices are repetitive, and there are minor errors in word formation (e.g., 'residents' used instead of 'citizens' or 'people'). While the range is sufficient to communicate the main points, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('if the society want', 'if we wants'), incorrect verb forms ('these free of cost work helpful'), and awkward phrasing ('despite creates stress'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. While the meaning is usually clear, the control over complex structures is inconsistent, and the errors are noticeable throughout the text.
