Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 153 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both competition and cooperation, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. The introduction is unclear, and the conclusion is repetitive. The response does not provide a clear, sustained position throughout the essay, and the lack of length prevents the student from fully exploring the prompt's requirements. To improve, the student must expand on their points with specific examples and ensure a structured approach to the discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. The use of headings like 'Intro' and 'Details' is inappropriate for an IELTS essay. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate ideas, and the flow between sentences is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices, making the progression of ideas difficult to follow. For example, the transition between the discussion of competition and cooperation is abrupt and lacks logical connectors. To improve, the student should focus on using linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'however', 'consequently') and organizing the essay into clear, logical paragraphs (Introduction, Body Paragraphs, Conclusion).
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic words like 'achieve', 'goal', 'work', and 'success' throughout the text. There is little evidence of the ability to use less common lexical items or demonstrate precision in word choice. Phrases such as 'its will do daily school work' are awkward and indicate a lack of control over collocation and style. To improve, the student should aim to learn synonyms and topic-specific vocabulary related to education and business, and practice using them in context to avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is frequently inaccurate, which often impedes communication. There are consistent errors in subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. For instance, 'Here this topic two people achieve the goals' is grammatically incorrect and unclear. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper structure, such as 'If people competition success then its will do daily school work'. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of pronouns.
