Student answer (Band 5.5)
Most of the people that had a job in the society believes that being a competitive is a positive attitude in the company. It can provide a greater idea to promote a huge impact in the company. Competition in school is quite different its crucial for the students to became competitive to study more and had a reward or honor when they get their diploma. In daily life, competition there is a good side it can motivate oneself to achieve more in their lives not to became contented of what they have.
I strongly agree, that cooperation is a key in success in every company. Helping each other can build teamwork in one area even our lives. For example, if there is a huge problem that needs to resolve, cooperation and giving ideas will provide help to conquer it rather than competition. Competition on the other side will give you a competitive mindset to earn more than what you had.
In conclusion, cooperation at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing rather than competing each other because no matter how the problem is, you cannot resolve it with on your own self. We need someone to cooperate and shared ideas with you. Nowadays, new generation of people competing each other with their own talents are good example of it.In this generation, high technology, skills and talents had an advantage in competing internationally and worldwide. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The essay falls just short of the 250-word minimum, which necessitates a penalty. The arguments regarding competition and cooperation are presented in a general way, but they lack specific, well-supported examples. For instance, the mention of 'high technology' in the conclusion is vague and does not effectively support the preceding arguments. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples to ensure the task is fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and abrupt transitions. While you use some cohesive devices like 'For example' and 'In conclusion', the flow between sentences is often mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between 'new generation of people' and the previous argument about cooperation is disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good thing' and 'huge impact', which are repetitive. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'being a competitive' (should be 'being competitive') and 'not to became contented' (should be 'not to become content'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations that are appropriate for an academic context, while paying closer attention to word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Most of the people... believes'), incorrect verb forms ('to became competitive'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips will help improve your accuracy.
