Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many of the individual believe that rivalry is very important whether it is workplace, educational institutes or in day-to-day life, because it maximise performance and greater output. On the other hand, few believe that instead of competition, cooperation helps to create positive outcome and I also believe in this view. The narrative ahead shall articulate both the viewpoints before reaching on a opinion.

Commencing with the former view, why people think that competition is good thing is that because of that it creates environment to increase the performance of individual. for instance, at workplaces if there is a rivalry between employees then there is greater chance of getting best outcome from all of them in less amount of time. Another example is that at education institutes like in schools or colleges, competition between students leads to motivate them to learn more and score very well in their exams. Another result of competition is that it can leads to better quality of work and more and more research in work.

On the other hand, the later view stat that collaboration is more important than competition to create positive environment in workplace or at daily life of individuals. To expand this, when people cooperate to do any work they can share their ideas and also can split the work to complete in shorter period of time. As a result, work can be done more efficiently with positive atmosphere. Similarly, at the school or college, they can do project in a teamwork to complete very effectively rather than competing with each other. In addition to this, in teamwork individual can share different skills. As consequences, with many combinations of skills the work done can be more effective than rivalry.

In conclusion, Although competition can result in maximum performance of individual, i believe that teamwork and collaboration of different idea at one place can bring better outcome with positive atmosphere.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both competition and cooperation before clearly stating a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the mention of increased efficiency through teamwork and the motivational aspect of rivalry. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second and third paragraphs where the same points about 'workplace' and 'school' are revisited. To reach a higher band, the arguments could be more nuanced, perhaps by exploring the potential downsides of competition (e.g., stress or toxic environments) or the limitations of cooperation (e.g., social loafing). Overall, the position is clear and maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'To expand this', and 'As a result' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the later view stat' (should be 'latter') and 'the narrative ahead shall articulate', which sounds slightly unnatural. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'articulate', 'rivalry', and 'collaboration'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'Many of the individual believe' (should be 'Many individuals'), 'maximise performance' (should be 'maximizes'), and 'reaching on a opinion' (should be 'reaching an opinion'). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the range and precision of the language used, preventing a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('competition... can leads to', 'the later view stat') and article usage ('at education institutes', 'in teamwork'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentence boundaries are slightly awkward. The errors are noticeable but rarely impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding pluralization and verb forms.
