Student answer (Band 6.0)
People consider competition in every walk of life a good thing, but others thing that we should be more cooperative, rather than competing against each other. Cooperation is a skill that certainly spread love and happiness on a work place and make life easier for everyone, but according to my views I strongly contend that competition is necessary to make a difference in a society and promotion for deserving people.
Supporting each other is a refreshing thing not for some individuals but for the whole community because right deeds driven by right deeds. It not only create a supporting environment, but more space for communication and sharing things with others. It really helps the weaker people around us and making difficult task easier. For example, in schools, young individuals studied team work and cooperation by participating in an activity together. It makes them to help others and communicate well. However, cooperation is limited for society because there is always need for experts to run businesses and the management, and to make this happen competition comes in.
On the other hand, competing with others really define your personality, not only this it distinguish a person among people to be right fit for a big position in a company. Professional rivalry is good for producing maturity in a person, who really want to accelerate in future. For instance, the selection of CEOs for companies based on their previous records and achievements and they did those things because of their competency.
In conclusion, some persons think that competition is a good thing, while others take it as a bad things and want their environment more cooperative. In my opinion, although coordinating with others is really important to make a place better for everyone, competition is very important to give importance to those who really deserve it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of cooperation are discussed, the explanation of competition is slightly more focused on professional advancement rather than the broader scope mentioned in the prompt. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reiterates the writer's stance. To reach a higher band, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with more specific, nuanced examples rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand,' 'For instance,' and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of cooperation and the need for competition in the second paragraph feels a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and paragraphing is appropriate.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations like 'professional rivalry' and 'accelerate in future.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'right deeds driven by right deeds' and 'make a difference in a society and promotion for deserving people,' which sound slightly unnatural. A wider range of precise vocabulary would help elevate the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'others thing,' 'it not only create,' 'young individuals studied') and article usage. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'it makes them to help others.' These errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable and occur throughout the text, preventing a higher score in this criterion.
