Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the benefits of competition are touched upon, the discussion on the drawbacks is somewhat disjointed and relies on generalizations. The conclusion introduces new, slightly off-topic ideas about crime and 'denger problems' which were not previously discussed, rather than summarizing the main points. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea that directly supports your position, and ensure the conclusion remains focused on the arguments already presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'FOR INSTANCE', 'THEREFOR'). The flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the two sides of the argument lacks sophistication. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows from the previous one to create a smoother narrative flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'JELOUSEY', 'CONCEQUENCES', 'WIKER', 'ENIMITY', 'RUMMERS', and 'HAGITATE'. These errors, combined with incorrect word choices (e.g., 'do better work' instead of 'improve performance'), occasionally impede communication. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and practice using collocations—words that naturally go together—rather than translating directly from your first language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people has becoming', 'some employment follow'), article usage, and sentence structure. The use of capitalization for entire sections is inappropriate for formal writing. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often marred by errors, such as 'MAY CAN LEAD' or 'SOME STUDENT CAN CATCHING'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization is also essential.
