Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern society, there is an ongoing debate about competition at work, school, and in daily life. Most people believes that competition is very essential in daily life while others believe that people should work together instead of competition. But I believe that a balance of both competition and cooperation is necessary. This essay will discuss both views.

On one hand, competition can have many several positive effects. In schools, for example, students may work harder in order to get more grades than their class fellows. They will work more harder. This will increase their knowledge as well as skills. Similarly, competition in the work place motivates the employees to improve their skills and achieve their professional goals. In addition, it can also promote innovation because companies and individuals try to develop ne ideas, products and services against their competitors. So. healthy competition plays a very significant role in daily life by developing courage, skills, and motivation.

On the other hands, cooperation is equally important, particularly when people share common goals. By working together, they can share knowledge, skills, and experiences, which can lead to better result. For instance, employees can cooperate with each other to solve complex problems. In addition, excessive competition can cause jealousy, stress, conflict which may negatively effect relationships and productivity.

In my opinion, neither competition nor cooperation should be completely preferred over the other. Healthy competition is useful because it encourage people to improve themselves, while cooperation helps them support one another. Therefore, the best approach is to maintain balance between both depending upon the situation and the goal involved.

In conclusion, competition can motivate people and cooperation can strengthen relationships. Therefore, I believe that combining both approaches is the best way to achieve success in school, work, and in everyday life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both the benefits of competition and cooperation, and you clearly stated your own position in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are slightly more detailed. For instance, when mentioning innovation in the workplace, you could briefly explain how a specific industry, such as technology, benefits from competitive pressure. Overall, your position is consistent and well-supported throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand,' 'In addition,' and 'Therefore' to link your ideas effectively. However, there are some minor issues with punctuation and sentence flow, such as the fragmented sentence 'So. healthy competition...' which disrupts the cohesion. Additionally, some transitions could be more sophisticated to improve the flow between sentences. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'innovation,' 'productivity,' and 'professional goals' appropriately. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'more grades' instead of 'higher grades' and 'ne ideas' (a typo for 'new'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items. For example, instead of saying 'get more grades,' you could use 'achieve higher academic standing.' The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly, but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('Most people believes' should be 'believe') and comparative errors ('work more harder' should be 'work harder'). There are also some punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary period after 'So.' and inconsistent capitalization. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and comparative forms will significantly improve your accuracy.
