Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, many of the people belive that rivalry at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing, Others agree that we should try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other. this essay will discuss both views before explaing. Why I believe that we should try to coordinate more, rather than competing against with others.

On the one hand, many people believe that contest at jobs, at schooling and in daily routine is a good habit. This is because competition is good for our life. We dare to do anything in school and office life is the good thing. For example, in our work place most of our colleagues done their task better and in-time. Therefore, when we conducting competion with other at that time we done the any work fast, efficient and also increase tthe productivity and results.

on the other hand, others agree that we should try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other. This is mainly because in a company, programmers, designers and marketing staff can work together to develop a successful product. For instance, different people have various skills and ideas using this they can share knowlede and solve the problems easier. However, I believe that teamwork can produce better results than work alone.

To conclude, although both views have their merits I believe that cooperation allows the people to combine their skills and knowlede to achieve their goals rather than because competating can create more stress, conflict and selfishness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the paragraph supporting competition is repetitive and lacks specific, well-explained examples, relying on vague statements like 'competition is good for our life.' The second paragraph on cooperation is better developed with the mention of professional roles, but the overall analysis remains superficial. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and clearer real-world examples to fully support your position throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'this essay will discuss both views before explaing. Why I believe...' where the punctuation is incorrect. Additionally, the flow between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good thing' and 'good habit' repeatedly. There are also several word-choice errors, such as 'coordinate' (when you likely meant 'cooperate') and 'competating' (which is not a standard word). Spelling errors, such as 'belive,' 'explaing,' 'knowlede,' and 'competion,' are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensure you are using words in their correct collocations and checking your spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('many of the people belive'), incorrect preposition usage ('competing against with'), and punctuation errors, particularly with sentence fragments and misplaced periods. For example, 'Why I believe that we should try to coordinate more, rather than competing against with others' is a sentence fragment. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation limit the score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
