Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's society, there is a lot of competition in every field includes work, study and other daily life activities. Many people try to compete each other in their purposes. Some think that competition with others is a good habit and we should do it. While some have different thoughts, their mindset is to help others in every aspect of life and to grow with them.

There are many human beings who do not want to help anybody in and type of activity. They always try to grow than others in their goals. For this reason, they started competing with others for just to be a leader of their work. It may be due tro their negative mindset, because they cannot see more successful. They never help each other in any need and just try to grow more than others in mind. Evan they do not want to see anybody more calm than themselves in daily normal life activities.

While, on the other side, some people have different mindset. they always want to grow others in every aspect. They always help others in activity they know. There is no any type of competition with different people in their mind. They always try most people to be successful in their life. These type of people no only focus on their growth and successful ,but they also work and cooperate with others for being grown.

In my opinion, some people just focus on themselves and they d not want to grow anybody with them. But many people always ready to help others. i think we should always cooperate with others and help others so we can grow together and whole society can be successful. We should remove negativity from mind and always ready to help others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development is quite limited. While you mention that some people prefer competition and others prefer cooperation, the ideas are repetitive and lack specific examples or deep analysis. For instance, you describe competitive people as having a 'negative mindset' without exploring the potential benefits of competition, such as increased productivity or innovation, which the prompt invites you to discuss. To improve, ensure you provide clear, distinct reasons for both perspectives and support them with concrete examples rather than general statements about human behavior.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or missing, making the flow feel disjointed. For example, the transition 'While, on the other side' is used to introduce the second viewpoint, but the internal structure of the paragraphs relies heavily on simple, repetitive sentence starters like 'They always...'. Using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') would help create a smoother logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. You frequently use the same words, such as 'grow', 'help', and 'mindset', throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'compete each other' (should be 'compete with each other') and 'being grown' (which is not a standard way to express personal development). To reach a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and demonstrate more precise control over word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies mostly on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors that affect clarity, such as 'For this reason, they started competing with others for just to be a leader of their work' and 'They never help each other in any need'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in subject-verb agreement and word order. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, and proofread carefully to correct basic errors in tense and article usage.
