Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued by some people that having goals and competition throughout life is better mainly because it allows people to improve day by day. Meanwhile, others argued that people should accept the situation and not try to compete with each other. However, I believe that people should think differently every day and compete with rivals.
On the one hand, supporters of the idea say that people must try to do their best in everyday life because it encourages us and makes us competent. As having a goal or rival in life makes you a harder worker and focused. Take an example of Brazil, in 2004, most of their schools focused on students competing with each other in games and also academically, as results show most of the population is focused and successful in their lives. Thus, it is proved that people should compete with rivals.
While on the other hand, the advocates of the view people should cooperate with opponents apart from competition because it makes our relationships stronger. As talking politically with people at work or in schools gives you an extra advantage to make relations easily. For instance, in Japan, it is expected that by the year 2044, most of their population will have a positive relation with each other mainly because currently they are trying to cooperate rather than compete. Hence, accepting real situations and cooperating have a positive outcome.
However, I believe that people should compete with rivals at every stage because it makes them more creative. As thinking differently every time allows people to create attractive ideas.
To sum up, even though societies can make better relationships through cooperation, but I believe that people should take the hard path it makes them tougher and more creative.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both competition and cooperation before providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the reference to Brazil in 2004 and Japan in 2044 lacks logical grounding and feels like a generic attempt to provide evidence rather than a well-reasoned argument. The position is consistent, but the supporting points could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The essay meets the requirements of the task but remains at a basic level of analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'While on the other hand', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'As having a goal or rival in life makes you a harder worker'. Additionally, the logical flow within paragraphs is occasionally interrupted by weak sentence connections. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. The student relies on basic terms like 'good thing', 'harder worker', and 'positive outcome'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are sometimes used incorrectly or in a repetitive manner, such as the repeated use of 'rivals' and 'compete'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express nuanced ideas rather than relying on simple, repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'others argued' (tense inconsistency), 'the advocates of the view people should cooperate' (missing 'that'), and 'even though societies can make better relationships... but I believe' (redundant conjunctions). These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures. More attention to subject-verb agreement and sentence construction is needed to move to a higher band.
