Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, competition is common in schools, workplaces and also daily life. Some people believe that competition is a good way to motivate people, while others think that cooperation is more useful. In my opinion, both have some advantanges, but cooperaiton is more inportant for a successful society.
On the one hand, competition can encourage people to work harder and improve thair skills. When students compete with each other, they may study more seriously to get better marks. Similarly, competition between employees can motivate them to perform better in thair work and achieve goals. In addition, this competition can help people become more confident and independent. For example, if two students compete in a sports competition, both of them may practise regularly to win.
On the other hand, cooperation can bring people together and help them to achieve a same goal. When people work as a team, they can shere their idear, knowledge and responsibilities. Moreover, cooperation is very important in the workplace because difficult projects are usually completed by a group rather than one person. For example, in a software company, a project can be completed more successfully when programmers, designers and managers work together and shere their ideas. if they cooperate with each other, they can solve problems faster and finish the project on time.
In conclusion, competition can motivate individuals to improve their performance, specially in education and employment. It has some benefits, but i believe cooperation is more important because it creates better relationships and help to people achieve common goals. Therefore, People should learn to compete in a healthy way and cooperate whenever it is necessary.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both competition and cooperation before providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the example of a software company to illustrate the benefits of teamwork. However, the development of the 'competition' argument is slightly more generic compared to the 'cooperation' section. To reach a higher band, you could provide more nuanced examples or explore the potential downsides of competition (e.g., stress or toxic environments) to create a more balanced and sophisticated discussion. Overall, the position is consistent throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is well-organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Similarly', 'In addition', and 'Moreover' effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrasing. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the argument well, making the essay easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'motivate', 'responsibilities', and 'independent'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'thair' instead of 'their', 'shere' instead of 'share', 'idear' instead of 'ideas', 'inportant' instead of 'important') and minor word choice issues. To improve, focus on proofreading for spelling and aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common vocabulary to demonstrate a wider range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'achieve a same goal' (should be 'the same goal') and 'help to people' (should be 'help people'). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are some minor slips with capitalization (e.g., 'People' in the final sentence). The sentence structures are functional, but increasing the variety of complex grammatical forms—such as using more conditional clauses or passive voice constructions—would enhance the quality of your writing.
