Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world where there is an increasing competition between the people, people competing with each other. There are some people who believe that competition is a good thing in our daily lifeboat school or at work.Whereas others think that we should cooperate more rather than competing with each other. This essay would discuss both the views before I give my opinion.

On the one hand there are people who believe that competition is a good thing in the daily life at school or at work, as completion helps in increasing the productivity output. The children would also get the good grades in their schools in the spirit of competing with other students due to the competition between children the children would start studying harder and it would help them by increasing their knowledge. The workers would also start working efficiently with efficiency in order compete with their colleagues. For instance if an employee have an ability to delay the tasks given to them but if there would be the spirit of competition between the employees then there would be less delays in the completion of given tasks this would also help the employees to increase their potential.

On the other hand there are also some people who think that we should prefer to cooperate more rather competing against each others,as when we are competing with each other we get the bitterness inside our heart for the fellow people as at that time we only think to do better then them. It also leads to forming the hardships in relationships of the people. For example when two students are studying and have feeling of competing with each other for better grades then they would develop the feeling of hatred between them.

In conclusion although, competition is a good thing in daily life as it develops the feeling of betterment in people ,I believe that cooperation is a better policy than the competition as competition develops hate in hearts of people

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both competition and cooperation and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of competition on productivity and the potential for social friction. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'bitterness' and 'hatred' in the third paragraph is a bit simplistic and could have been expanded with more nuanced examples. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a basic level, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'the children' or 'the employees'. The transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the argument. Paragraphing is present but could be more effectively managed to separate distinct points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. There is frequent repetition of basic terms like 'competition', 'good thing', and 'people'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'daily lifeboat school' (likely a typo for 'daily life or school') and 'bitterness inside our heart'. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic collocations that would demonstrate a higher level of control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('in the spirit of competing'), subject-verb agreement errors ('if an employee have an ability'), and awkward phrasing ('there would be less delays'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of missing spaces after periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures, keeping the score in the mid-range.
