Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people beleive that competition at various places for instance, at work, at school, and in daily life is a good thing while some think that we should cooperate more than competing with each other. In my opinion, both views are correct in different ways.

If we talk about competition it makes people more energetic. In schools, Students learn alot by taking part in various competition like speech competition, playing games and many other things. By this people concentrate on their works at offices. They complete their tasks within time. In daily life, there is as such no competition is needed because many people do their work by their own choice. From my perspective, Heres competition is not a good thing.

On the other hand, Some people think that cooperating with each other is the best way. According to their point of view, They want to live with peace. Moreover, they just sacred from fights. Sometimes, In competition the people fight with each other and use abusive language. So, to avoid from these things some people try to cooperate rather than competing with any person.

In conclusion, in my opinion, competition in schools and work are crucial because members and students get many things and aslo they develop skills to generate ideas for quick answers. We should also cooperate on some places not at all.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, but the development of ideas is limited. The essay is under the 250-word minimum, which restricts the depth of the arguments. While the benefits of competition in schools and workplaces are mentioned, the explanation is superficial. The discussion on cooperation is also brief and lacks specific examples. The position is clear, but the overall response is underdeveloped, failing to fully explore the implications of the prompt. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and concrete examples to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'In my opinion' and 'On the other hand'. Some transitions are awkward, such as 'In daily life, there is as such no competition is needed'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition from school competition to daily life feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'they just sacred from fights' (likely meaning 'scared of') and 'at some places not at all'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on simple, repetitive terms. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, such as 'foster collaboration' instead of 'cooperate more' or 'academic environment' instead of 'at schools'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Some people beleive'), article usage, and punctuation errors. For example, 'In schools, Students learn alot' contains an unnecessary capital letter and a spelling error. The sentence 'In daily life, there is as such no competition is needed' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence structure consistency.
