Student answer (Band 6.0)

According to some people, competition is a good thing at work, school and in daily life. While others believe that we should go for cooperate rather than competing against each other. In my opinion, competition in daily life is a good thing and this essay discusses both views, reasons and suitable examples to support the views and my opinion.

In our daily life, we see people competing for progress, survival, success, and growth. As we all know, life is a race of survival. Those who try hard got succeed and others left behind. No one can underestimate this reality. So what is the need to ignore competition at work, schools and in daily life. As per the need of the time, we should be aware of the fact that we have to try and compete to get success. Otherwise, I am afraid that when people dont even try to participate in competition, how they get progress and success. Brainstorming is needed for kids, and young adults to understand this existed reality and to sharpen their mind.

Nothing wrong if people help each other at work. There are many examples where the team work achieved the bigger feats. In large companies, teams work together to get to team goals. Without this, development of any group is not possible. Hence, team work and cooperation has a vital role in the development of public and private sector of a country.

Cooperation is important to achieve the common goals but we cannot ignore the fact that without competition, survival and growth is not possible. In my opinion, people should go for competition and train their young kids to prepare themselves. Yes, there is a fear of failure. Failure is not the end of the world and is better than not even trying. I always motivate the lost guys by saying "failure is a part of success".

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument for competition relies heavily on the concept of 'survival' without exploring the potential negative impacts, such as stress or burnout. Similarly, the section on cooperation is brief and lacks specific examples, merely stating that 'teams work together'. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your claims. The introduction is slightly repetitive, and the conclusion could be more effectively linked to the main body arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Hence, team work and cooperation has a vital role' is used, but the connection between the previous sentence and this conclusion is weak. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, such as 'Those who try hard got succeed and others left behind.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on common words like 'good', 'success', and 'progress' throughout the essay. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'go for cooperate' (should be 'cooperate') and 'lost guys' (which is too informal for an academic essay). To improve, focus on using more academic vocabulary and precise collocations that fit the formal tone of an IELTS task 2 response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'While others believe that we should go for cooperate' (fragmented sentence), 'Those who try hard got succeed' (incorrect verb form), and 'when people dont even try... how they get progress' (incorrect word order in an indirect question). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in tense, word order, and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.
