Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, People are facing more competition in their working place, at educational institutes in fact, in every field of their lives. Some of them strongly believes it would be a good thing, if there is a competition among themselves. In contrast, Others believe that we should be more cooperative with one another rather than having a challenge among ourselves. I strongly believes that a competitive environment is necessarily important to do a great and effective work.

On the one hand, If there is a strong rivalry among the students or job workers, It would definitely help them to work more effectively by using all of their senses and eventually they can score well in their fields. Secondly, there is a strict working environment there as all of them are busy in their doings. Moreover, If there is a competition, people may become aggressive and they start a quarrel between them. Likewise, friendly environment is harmed or disrupted by competition because people start to hate each others.

On the other hand, some other people think that if there would be no competition among the workers. a more friendly or cooperative environment is achieved. This leads people to work together and eventually they bound them to success. In addition, pupils and job worker become more than a family for each other as they offer a comfort zone to one another. This also helps in the elimination of discrimination and social anxiety of some people.

In conclusion, I firmly agree with that there competition in every field of life is a good thing because people work highly efficient in pressure or in the sense of winning. Although, having no competition among people is great as it offers friendly environment and help people to work as a team, but is has far more drawbacks than having a challenge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both competition and cooperation while providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The second paragraph contains contradictory points, as it begins by arguing for the benefits of competition but then shifts to listing its negative effects, such as aggression and the disruption of a friendly environment. This lack of focus weakens the argument. While the position is clear, the supporting points require more logical consistency and depth to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly misused, such as the use of 'Likewise' to introduce a negative point about competition. Additionally, the internal structure of the second paragraph is confusing because it presents arguments for and against competition in the same section, which disrupts the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'competitive environment' and 'cooperative environment.' However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'job workers' instead of 'employees' or 'colleagues,' and 'bound them to success,' which is not a standard collocation. The range is sufficient for communication but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Some of them strongly believes,' 'I strongly believes') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of incorrect capitalization and sentence fragments, such as 'If there would be no competition among the workers. a more friendly...'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing.
