Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different opinion about competition in their life. Some people said competition at work, home and daily life is good thing, others argure that everyone should cooperate with each other. There are some good thing in cooperate with each other, but I completely agree with the statement that competition is good for develov our life.

There are several reasons why I agree with the statement. Firstly, if people work in a competitive atmosphere they can improve their skill. Working in that type situations not only improve their skill but also prepare themselves to face any challenges. For example, many employees work in office also lots of students study in one class. The healthy atmosphere can help them to work or study hard to sucess in life. In addition, if anyone work harder others also motivated to work more. By working with lots of people also incress the confidence and believe in mind to work more and become successful. Working hard in life also creates an opportunity in life.

On the other hand, there are some demerits also. The main demerit point is it incress unhealthy competition in everyon's life. For instance, competition with own colleagues and classmate incress anger and also they become unhelpful with each other. For that reason, no one can help each other and it impact their life. Also unhealthy competition create mental pressure and anxiety in personal life. Friendship between people are fall endangered and also create misunderstanding each other.

In conclusion, there are some benefits of cooperate with each other. However, I strongly agree that competition inhance people skill and aslo create more opportunity to shine in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both competition and cooperation while clearly stating a personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide reasons for the benefits of competition, such as skill improvement and motivation, the discussion on cooperation is less developed and feels slightly rushed. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and provide more specific, concrete examples rather than general statements like 'many employees work in office'. Your position is clear throughout, which is a positive aspect of your writing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to link your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'For that reason, no one can help each other and it impact their life'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'develov', 'sucess', 'incress', and 'inhance', which occasionally distract the reader. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations, such as 'friendship between people are fall endangered'. To improve, focus on learning word families and common collocations. Using more precise academic vocabulary instead of repeating simple words like 'good' or 'work' will help you demonstrate a more flexible and sophisticated range of language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'friendship... are fall'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'good thing in cooperate'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles. Proofreading your work for these common errors before finishing would significantly improve your score.
