Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 191 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. While you identify both sides of the argument and provide a brief personal perspective, the lack of length means the discussion is underdeveloped. To improve, you must ensure you fully explore each viewpoint with sufficient supporting examples and provide a clear, well-structured conclusion. The current response is too brief to adequately address all parts of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay shows a basic attempt at paragraphing, but the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In this modern era' and 'Although', but they are sometimes used mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a proper conclusion makes the overall flow disjointed. To achieve a higher score, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked more fluidly using a wider variety of transition signals.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'moral down' instead of 'demoralization' and 'incriment' (spelling error). You rely on fairly simple vocabulary to express your ideas. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key terms. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to education and the workplace would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'In some extent competition with others applicable' (missing verb/preposition) and 'student felt more pressure' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for basic sentence construction errors. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help raise your score.
