Student answer (Band 5.0)

Over recent years, Competition has become a hotly debated issue in society. This matter is particularly significant due to its impact on individuals. I firmly believe that competition at work, At school and in our daily life is a good thing. In this essay, I will present the reasons supporting my viewpoint and address potential counterarguments.

Some people believe that we should try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other because by cooperating with each other we may become more closer to them however, this thing must ceases them from bad blood. For instance, if we treat gently and politely with anyone although it make good impact and by doing it we can easily built our stronger relation. Another reasons why people hold this believe is due to the hate that is produced by competing with other. For example, if we try to race with anyone. It may grow detest for him because of this conquest. Nevertheless, these arguments are not entirely convincing when weighed against the broader implications.

One of the main reasons I support competition at work, at school and in daily life because webster may motivate them to make best than their opponent. This is the evident from various studies and real-life examples have shown that webster often leads to success. for instance, in school students yields more good results than their rival by competition.

In conclusion, I believe that competition clearly supports that it is a good thing, primarily due to its benefits.

Moving forward, it is essential to recognize the advantages of this viewpoint and apply it in ways that foster positive outcomes for both individuals and society as a whole.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses both views by discussing cooperation and competition, and clearly states a personal position in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times confusing due to expression issues. For instance, the counterargument regarding cooperation mentions that it 'must ceases them from bad blood,' which is unclear. Furthermore, the argument supporting competition relies on repetitive phrasing and vague references like 'webster may motivate them,' which appears to be a vocabulary confusion or typo. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the ideas are under-developed and lack the depth expected for higher bands, placing this response securely at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows some basic organization with paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or misused. For example, transition phrases such as 'Moving forward' at the end of the conclusion feel misplaced. Referencing is also unclear in places, such as 'this thing' and 'webster,' which disrupt the flow of ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links between sentences are often weak, causing the reader to struggle to follow the progression of arguments. This corresponds to the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader. The student relies on basic words and attempts less common vocabulary with significant inaccuracy, such as 'ceases them from bad blood,' 'built our stronger relation,' and 'detest for him because of this conquest.' Additionally, the recurring use of the word 'webster' in the third body paragraph appears to be a severe lexical error or autocorrect mistake intended to mean 'we' or 'competition.' While the topic is understandable in broad terms, the lexical control is weak, making Band 4.5 or 5.0 appropriate. Awarding Band 5.0 reflects a minimally adequate range with frequent noticeable errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('students yields more good results'), missing prepositions, and incorrect word forms ('treat gently and politely' instead of 'treat others'). Punctuation and capitalization errors are also present, such as 'At school and in our daily life.' While the meaning can sometimes be deciphered, the frequency of errors causes considerable difficulty for the reader and prevents the response from reaching Band 6.0.
