Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 147 words. Consequently, the task cannot be fully addressed or developed. While the student attempts to state an opinion and briefly touches upon both sides of the argument, the ideas are severely underdeveloped, fragmented, and incomplete. Sentences trail off, such as 'and they belive competion', leaving the position and reasoning extremely unclear. Due to the under-length penalty and lack of adequate development, this falls under Band 4.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organisation and progression of ideas are severely impaired by the fragmented nature of the text and lack of proper paragraphing. The response consists of very short, disjointed blocks of text rather than cohesive paragraphs. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, and referencing is frequently unclear, such as shifting pronouns confusingly between plural groups and singular subjects (e.g., 'competition made him strong'). Information and ideas are not arranged coherently, matching the descriptors for Band 4.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and restricted to everyday words. There are numerous severe errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation, such as 'soport' for sport, 'benifit' for benefit, 'compeat' for compete, 'openion' for opinion, and 'participent' for participant. These lexical inaccuracies and the extremely limited range strain the reader and impede understanding, which aligns with the criteria for Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentences with frequent, severe structural errors. Complex sentence attempts are either absent or entirely faulty. There are constant errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, such as 'Because, I do not change mind set' and 'those are physical and medical strong'. These frequent errors frequently distort meaning and make the text difficult to process, placing the response firmly at Band 4.
