Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to discuss both views on competition versus cooperation and gives a personal opinion, thereby covering all parts of the task as required by the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat superficial. For instance, the student states in the body paragraph that at work 'everyone wants promotion that is why they always do good job', but this point is not fully extended or supported with deeper reasoning or concrete examples. Similarly, the cooperative view is dismissed rather briefly without exploring potential benefits like teamwork or collective problem-solving. The position is clear throughout, but the over-simplification of arguments places this essay at the lower end of the task-oriented spectrum, aligning best with Band 5 descriptors where ideas are somewhat under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic paragraphing to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs, the writer's opinion, and a conclusion. However, the overall organization lacks smooth progression and logical transitions between ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'on the one hand', 'on the other hand', and 'from my veiw' without always establishing clear logical relationships. Referencing is sometimes confusing, as seen in sentences like 'it gives a person less consistent , not focus on their work , and get loss all time'. The lack of sophisticated transition markers and the mechanical nature of the cohesive links reflect the characteristics of a Band 5 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on everyday words such as 'good', 'job', 'work', and 'competition'. There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'frist' for first, 'debet' for debate, 'wheras' for whereas, 'compettition', 'everthing', 'sectors', 'consistant' for consistent, and 'concerntrate'. These errors and the limited lexical range mean the vocabulary is only minimally adequate for the task. The frequent inaccuracies in spelling and word formation occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, fitting firmly into the Band 4 to Band 5 range, leaning towards a 5 for communicative intent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The student uses a mix of simple sentences and attempts at complex forms, but these attempts are frequently marred by basic grammatical and punctuation errors. Examples include run-on sentences with comma splices, such as 'everyone wants to get a good job in their work life , everybody wants to be frist in their school', and missing auxiliary verbs or incorrect verb forms like 'everthing going to be hard' and 'everybody do there best'. Punctuation is inconsistent, with spaces frequently placed before commas and periods. Due to the high frequency of grammatical errors and inaccurate sentence structures that sometimes impede smooth reading, this performance corresponds to Band 4.
