Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the benefits of competition and the arguments for cooperation, while also stating a personal opinion. The position is generally clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are under-developed and lack extension. For instance, the writer states that competition teaches time management and hard work, but does not elaborate with a concrete example. The body paragraphs tend to generalize rather than fully explore the nuances of both viewpoints. Furthermore, the final paragraph introduces minor confusion with phrasing such as 'positive excepts'. Consequently, the performance aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors, as all parts of the prompt are addressed, but the depth of development is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. The writer over-uses basic cohesive devices and punctuation errors disrupt the flow, such as missing spaces after commas and periods throughout the text (e.g., 'Nowadays, the generation'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where pronouns and transitions like 'afterwards we have become awful person' obscure the logical progression. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical links between sentences can be repetitive. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5 category for cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and displays noticeable errors that frequently cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'paramount benefits', 'punctual', and 'demonstrate our hidden ability', but these are often accompanied by severe word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'decent acquire for compitetors' and 'cooperate enormous'. There are also frequent spelling and morphological errors, including 'compitetors', 'lession', and 'labourish'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic argument, the accumulation of lexical errors prevents the score from reaching a higher band, making Band 5 an appropriate evaluation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is restricted, relying on a mix of simple and somewhat complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as 'previously time', 'present time to reside is being competition', and 'If we started to competing each other'. Subject-verb agreement and prepositional use are also problematic throughout the response (e.g., 'cooperate more, rather than competing', 'competing each other'). Although the meaning can usually be deciphered despite these hurdles, the high frequency of errors places the grammar squarely at Band 5.
