Student answer (Band 5.0)

Few people think, competitions among the workers and students is great thing, i agree with it as competition makes a person to do more excellent job than the others. I also disagree with it because competition at every level makes a person rude and selfish. A person of such belief feels more obdient in himself

Competition plays an essential role for a to develop and achieve his goal more faster than others.it makes a person to work hard and think about its goal everytime. Whenever he feels relax he thinks that people at my office or school doing more efforts than me so I also have to hard work. Because he of this he achieve his aim. Competitions make some people to self obsessed and selfish, so thinking about others isn’t too good. We should try cooperate with each other and help each other.

My friend “Ahmed” who’s so competitive in any every field of life . He didn’t tolerate anyone to achieve more success in life than him. Ahmed behaviour about others made him feel so embarrassing at one time when he went to give interview for a journalist job. He showed his rude and attitude behaviour in talking to interview taker people. As a result they ban him for 5years to not appear anywhere for giving job interview. So sometimes too much competition makes a person feel embarrass.

In the conclusion, competition is convenient for those who are kinda shy or introvert. They can become self confident after such competitions among the peeps. But there is also many bad aspects of it as sometimes it makes them to feel guilty or even lead them to self harm after knowing about their mistakes

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to discuss both views on competition versus cooperation and provides a personal opinion, which satisfies the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven. For instance, the student states that competition makes a person 'rude and selfish' and later mentions that it helps them achieve goals faster, but these points lack deep extension and rely on over-generalised claims. The position is stated at the beginning ('i agree with it as competition makes a person to do more excellent job') but becomes slightly contradictory when discussing the negative impacts. While the task is addressed, the ideas remain underdeveloped, placing this response at Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the overall structure and logical progression are frequently disrupted by weak transitions and disjointed sentences. For example, the transition between the introduction and the second paragraph lacks a smooth flow, and the anecdote about 'Ahmed' is abruptly introduced without proper framing. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'Because he of this he achieve his aim' and 'In the conclusion'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal coherence within the paragraphs is weak, causing noticeable jumps in thought. These issues align with the Band 5 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and displays noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'introvert', 'self obsessed', and 'convenient', but frequently misuses word forms and collocations. Examples include 'feels more obdient in himself', 'thinking about others isn't too good', and 'attitude behaviour'. There are also vocabulary gaps and awkward phrasings like 'interview taker people' instead of 'interviewers'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic meaning, the frequency of word-choice errors restricts the score to a Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic compound forms. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to ungrammatical constructions such as 'Few people think, competitions among the workers and students is great thing' and 'He didn’t tolerate anyone to achieve more success in life than him.' Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'competitions... is', 'people at my office... doing'), missing articles, and awkward punctuation are present throughout the text. These errors can cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar firmly at a Band 5 level.
