Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on competition and cooperation while also offering the writer's own opinion. The position is clear throughout the essay, and the main ideas are generally relevant. However, the development of ideas tends to be somewhat repetitive and lacks depth, especially in the body paragraphs where points about promotions and skill development are briefly stated rather than fully elaborated. For instance, the mention that competition helps employees develop new skills is not supported by a specific example or detailed explanation. Furthermore, there are minor issues with task interpretation regarding phrasing, but overall, the writer covers the prompt adequately, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable overall structure with a clear four-paragraph layout, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. However, logical progression is hindered by awkward transitional phrases such as 'While, other agure that' and repetitive cohesive devices. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different viewpoints, but internal cohesion within paragraphs can be mechanical or faulty, such as the abrupt shifts between ideas in the second paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are not always used with precision. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, where organization is present but coherence suffers from inadequate linking.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about work, school, and daily life. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'agure' instead of argue, 'discus' instead of discuss, 'implementions' instead of implementations, 'permotions' instead of promotions, 'competite' instead of compete, 'inceriments' instead of increments, 'workolic' instead of workaholic, 'efficiant' instead of efficient, 'stduents' instead of students, 'usefull' instead of useful, 'performence' instead of performance, 'srounding' instead of surrounding, 'slove' instead of solve, 'memeber' instead of member, 'organzations' instead of organizations, and 'inhance' instead of enhance. Although these errors are frequent, they rarely completely impede communication, resulting in a Band 5.0 score for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('While, other agure that we need to support each other...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, articles, and sentence structure. Examples include 'beneficial to having' instead of 'beneficial to have', 'does not in favor among us' instead of 'not in our favor', 'built them more efficiant' instead of 'make them more efficient', and 'In schools also necessary' instead of 'In schools, it is also necessary'. The high frequency of grammatical mistakes causes noticeable difficulty for the reader at times, aligning the response with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
