Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt regarding competition and cooperation, presenting an explicit opinion at the end of the text. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and the response is cut off mid-sentence at 223 words, failing to meet the minimum 250-word requirement. This under-length impacts the overall completeness of the task. While the student attempts to explore personal development and social relationships, the arguments remain underdeveloped and lack specific supporting examples. Consequently, the response aligns best with a Band 5.0 for Task Achievement due to partial task fulfillment and the length penalty.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates an attempt at organization with paragraph breaks and basic transition markers such as 'Firstly' and 'On the other hand'. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and abrupt shifts between ideas. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in sentences like 'This relationship create environment without friend.' Paragraphing is used, but the conclusion is incomplete and lacks adequate cohesive tying. Overall, the structural flow shows some basic organization but suffers from mechanical and repetitive cohesive devices, meriting a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate vocabulary range to discuss work, school, and daily life. Words like 'competition', 'development', and 'knowledge' are used appropriately, but there are noticeable errors in word formation and choice, such as 'belive', 'competient', 'individul', and 'jelous free'. Less common lexical items are attempted but frequently misused. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical control, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor for vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies on a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty and ungrammatical. Examples include 'Some individuals belive that it requires to have a competition...' and 'everyone living fast pace life'. There are frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This sometimes result', 'this sharing and helping relationship develop'). These persistent errors can cause difficulty for the reader, although basic meaning usually remains understandable, supporting a Band 5.0 score.
