Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to discuss the topic of competition versus cooperation by providing a personal anecdote about playing badminton and table tennis. However, the connection to the prompt is extremely tenuous, and the main tenets of both views are barely explored. The discussion is restricted to a very narrow, informal personal narrative rather than examining the broader implications of competition at work, at school, and in daily life. Furthermore, your own opinion is not clearly stated or maintained. Ideas remain repetitive and heavily under-developed throughout the essay, focusing excessively on minor narrative details rather than addressing the core arguments surrounding the debate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical overall structure and fails to utilize appropriate paragraphing. The text is divided into three dense blocks that mix different ideas and narrative shifts haphazardly. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used very inaccurately, resulting in a disjointed reading experience. For instance, transitional phrases like 'the rather than is too good against with each other second time' and 'and the end' make the logical progression nearly impossible to follow. The referencing and pronoun usage are frequently unclear, making it difficult to determine whether the writer is referring to themselves, their friend, or a general participant.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used throughout the essay is extremely basic, repetitive, and restricted to simple everyday terms. There are numerous instances of incorrect word choices, inappropriate collocations, and severe spelling errors that frequently impede communication. Examples include words like 'competate', 'batmintain', 'chellenge', 'peoples', 'embrace' (used incorrectly for embarrassed), and 'hardly' (confused with hard). While the writer attempts to use some less common words, the overwhelming frequency of lexical errors and limited control over word formation restrict the score to this band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying primarily on simple sentences strung together with coordinating conjunctions like 'and'. When complex structures are attempted, they are almost entirely faulty and lack structural integrity. Punctuation is largely absent or misused, and run-on sentences are common, such as in the opening paragraph. Errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and word order occur in almost every sentence, significantly distorting meaning and causing severe strain for the reader trying to decode the message.
